VERY CONCERNED
Review of Summit Allergy Clinic
VERY CONCERNED. I am (WAS) a patient of Dr Michael Lipan until my last visit of June 3rd 2025. I will not see him anymore! I have lost confidence in him and quite frankly was very concerned by his behavior at my last visit. I have seen Dr. Lipan several times over the last several years and always enjoyed my visits with him. I always felt very comfortable with him and always thought I received good care. Dr. Lipan was always very professional and had a pretty good sense of humor. However, my last visit was very disturbing to me and left me uncomfortable to the point that I will not return to his practice anymore. I went to see him for allergy testing. The woman who performed the testing was most definitely a pro. She was very knowledgeable. After the testing was completed I saw Dr. Lipan. I greeted him in my normal friendly attitude, he essentially ignored me and sat down and began looking at his iPad. I was seated where I was looking at the right side of his face and was able to see him and the screen to his pad. The page never changed so I’m not sure what he needed to be staring at the pad intently for such a long time. I was in that room at least 10+ minutes. We talked, I asked questions, he responded to my questions and NEVER LOOKED UP AT ME ONCE. I tried to engage him in conversation around my symptoms and he still would not turn to me and most importantly to me, he avoided any eye contact whatsoever! It left me with a very uncomfortable feeling and some concern. The doctor left the examination room and someone came in and presented me with several documents that addressed the risks of allergy testing and the potential side effects. I was asked to see the doctor in another small room where the doctor sat at a small desk as I recall. His back was to me. As I read the documents and asked questions about the potential deadly side effects the doctor addressed my questions but, STILL would not look at me. Complete avoidance of eye contact. This behavior was a RED FLAG to me. Consistent avoidance of eye contact-especially in a one-on-one medical conversation! (I won’t speculate) but, in a clinical setting, this should not happen. My concerns are based on a sudden and drastic change in professionalism, behavior and interpersonal engagement. Being asked to sign waivers where there are serious risks without clear communication is not acceptable. Especially, with potentially life-threatening side effects. There should have been clear compassionate explanation when discussing those side effects. What was he avoiding with the absence of any eye contact for the entire visit? I called his office the next day and expressed my concern. Unfortunately, I was told that they were not surprised by what I was reporting. I requested that the doctor call me so that I could share my feelings with him about the visit. After all, I had seen him for a few years. I really like the doctor. I have yet to receive a call from him or his office. So, I must trust my gut. I do not trust my medical care with him any longer. Regretfully,
