Review of Smile Dental Center
I had the same amazing dentist for 37 years, and had to find a new one when he partially retired and stopped taking my insurance. I decided on Drake Dental, and was impressed with the beautiful office and modern technology. One of my front teeth had chipped and was bonded, and I knew that at some point I was going to have to get veneers. Due to the trauma, the bonded tooth was discolored, and Dr. Khaghany-Duffy noticed right away and recommended veneers. She informed me that my bite was too tight to allow for veneers, so I would need braces. I visited Grabowski Orthodontics, and had Invisalign on my teeth for a year. When my teeth were ready, I made an appointment with Drake Dental. I asked the person on the phone if my insurance would cover any of the bill, and she stated that insurance never covers veneers, but she would call them to find out. During my first veneer appointment, Dr Khaghany-Duffy took a look at my teeth and told me that one of my front teeth was discolored. THAT WAS THE REASON THAT I WAS GETTING VENEERS. Then she said that the discoloration may show through the veneer. Something that she had neglected to tell me BEFORE I PAID $4000 FOR INVISALIGN! I started to get very nervous, and she said, “Are you sure you want to do this?” Then the assistant ground my 2 front teeth down to tiny little pegs, without any warning. The assistant put on temporary teeth that I would wear for 30 days while my veneers were being made, but they fell off within hours. I asked the front desk person if insurance was going to cover any of it. She stated that “Insurance never covers veneers”, and that they had not even checked with my insurance company. She insisted that I pay the $2700 before leaving the office. I called the insurance company and learned that they would reimburse me for $1400. I wondered if Drake Dental would have ever told me that, or given me the reimbursement if I hadn’t called. I had to wear my Invisalign with the temporary teeth when I ate so they wouldn’t fall out. I received my veneers and loved them. A month later, I called the insurance company and asked when I would receive my reimbursement. They said that they had sent it to Drake Dental 3 weeks before. I had to call Drake Dental to get my money. The veneers stayed on for 3 months until, while eating on vacation, one fell off and I swallowed it. When someone from the office called me back, they told me that this happens all the time, and to keep searching through my poop to find it. It was an awful dehumanizing experience. I called them to say that I couldn’t find it, and asked if I could get a temporary tooth because I had to put gum in my Invisalign to look like a tooth. I was told that they could get me in in 6 days. I started crying and told them that I have a job and need a tooth. They said that I could come in and when Dr Khaghany-Duffy saw me crying, she said, “Oh come on, there are worse things going on in the world.” I’m guessing she’s never sifted through her poop for 3 days. I got another temporary tooth that fell off immediately, so I had to take it out every time I ate. 37 days later, I went in to get my tooth, and it was the wrong color. A week later they said that my tooth was ready, but I was terrified that it would fall out again, so I got the tooth from them and had my old dentist put it on. I completely regret going to Drake Dental. I don't believe that the providers care about the patients, just about the money they receive, I also do not think that I would have gotten my reimbursement from my insurance company if I had not followed up. Update - my second Drake road veneer fell off after a year. My dentist said that they ground my teeth down too much and took off too much enamel. They also destroyed my gum on my front tooth.
