My husband and I recently moved into a new house and called this company for a chimney sweep and inspection.  During the visit, Paul identified several issues, including water seeping in due to old flashing around the chimney, which he said could potentially lead to mold. This sounded urgent, and he offered to reflash the chimney for $3,600. Although the price seemed high, Paul was personable and assured us it was fair, so we agreed. While the work was being done, we looked up typical costs and saw most estimates for reflashing were under $1,000. Afterward, we asked about the price difference and were told it was due to our roof’s steep pitch. Paul also strongly encouraged additional services, including installing a cast-in-place Thermocrete liner, mentioning we could get a “good price” as repeat customers. We declined any additional work at that time.

To better understand pricing, we later contacted six other chimney companies and asked for quotes on reflashing (without sharing what we paid). The highest quote we received was $1,200 — three times less than $3,600 we paid. That left us feeling uneasy about the original charge. We spoke with the owner, Charles, to share our concerns, and his solution was to give us a steep discount on the Thermocrete which we again said we were not ready to commit to. After continual conversations with Charles, he offered to send Paul back to re-lay our crown and side crown for no additional charge. At the end of the day, Charles did attempt to make things right and we do appreciate that effort to address the situation. That said, as new homeowners facing a large unexpected repair, we wish the pricing had been more transparent and in line with other companies from the start. We would much rather have paid a fair price for the reflashing service that was needed to stop the water coming in than pay $3,600 for an additional service we didn't need right away. We encourage others to get multiple quotes before committing.
